Cannabis, Marijuana, Weed…. What’s with all the names?
Cannabis is the scientific name of the plant and the term marijuana is actually Mexican Spanish. But it was never a name for the plant that you smoke today. It was the name of another mixture of herbs that the Mexicans used for other reasons.
Ganga is a term from India. Pot is short for the Spanish term “Potiguaya” (a wine steeped with cannabis). And the term “Weed” came around in the 80’s with the counter-culture.
